The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Community Relations Specialist to participate in a variety of community outreach programs which may include housing rehabilitation, police services or public safety related activities; to provide information to the public through various mediums, including public meetings, radio ads, and informational brochures and advertisements; and to prepare and maintain records and reports related to assigned responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answer questions and provide information to the general public, City staff and public officials regarding program areas; meet with clients and help facilitate participation in programs; coordinate department resources to support community events; present information to various groups about assigned programs.
  • Organize community councils; attend community council meetings, work with members and provide information; meet with other community and neighborhood groups and individuals to present information about programs.
  • Coordinate department and community events, including creating and/or updating marketing materials associated with events; take pictures at events; solicit and coordinate the use of volunteers for events.
  • Develop neighborhood surveys to solicit citizen input.
  • Provide staff support to a variety of boards, commissions and committees; prepare and distribute reports, correspondence and related documentation as requested; review agency reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Meet with various outside individuals and agencies including resource personnel for presentations and special activities, and various county, state and federal representatives; work with other City departments and divisions to provide information and administer programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in community services, sociology, public administration, or a related field. Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in community services, sociology, public administration or a related field. LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS: Required: None. Preferred: Environmental Review Procedures certification. From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
